It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard C. Dutton Jr., a lifelong resident of Southern Maryland, on December 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Richard, born on September 10, 1954, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to his family, his community, and his craft. Richard was the oldest of seven siblings in a close-knit family, where he learned the values of responsibility, hard work, and loyalty. From a young age, he worked alongside his father in the family business, Richard C. Dutton Inc., developing the carpentry skills that would define his career. After his father's passing, Richard took over the business and continued the legacy his father had built. Over the next 40 years, he became known for his exceptional craftsmanship, building and remodeling homes across the region. His work left a lasting legacy in the homes he built and the countless lives he touched. Richard’s commitment to quality and excellence was evident in every project he completed, and he took immense pride in the lasting impact of his work. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Dyneene, and together they spent over 50 years building a life filled with love, trust, and cherished memories. Their partnership was a true testament to the enduring power of love. As a father and grandfather, Richard’s love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. His strong hands built not only homes, but a legacy of devotion, hard work, and pride. A man of great character and loyalty, Richard was known for his ability to make friends wherever he went. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offering support and encouragement to those in need. Whether it was through his work, his words, or his presence, Richard’s warmth and generosity were felt by all who knew him. Richard especially enjoyed the company of his neighbor, who visited him daily. Together, they spent countless hours in the garage, talking about everything under the sun, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company. Outside of work, Richard had a deep passion for cars. He spent countless hours working on his 1969 Nova SS, and his love for speed and precision extended to his enjoyment of NASCAR and attending races. Saturday afternoons would often find him in Marbury, enjoying the company of his lifelong friends. Richard also had a passion for collecting model cars, a hobby that brought him joy and allowed him to relive his love for classic automobiles in a new way. Above all, Richard cherished family vacations, traveling with Dyneene and their family, traveling with his brother and visiting out of state family and friends. These trips created lasting memories, strengthening the bond he shared with those closest to him. Richard’s legacy will live on in the homes he built, the stories he shared, and the hearts of all who loved him. He was the son of the late Richard Dutton and Rita Willett Dutton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Sally Dutton, his sister-in-law Donna Card Dutton and his brother in law Jack Klerk. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Dyneene, children Keith (Wendy) & Holly (Luie) grandchildren Marissa Rodriguez, Carter Rodriguez, Madalyn Dutton and Miranda Dutton. His brothers and sisters Christopher Dutton, Elizabeth Dutton-Davis, Jennifer Klerk, Melanie Dutton and Bradley Dutton (Gail Dutton) and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. His love of life, wisdom, and kindness will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to mikeroweWORKS Foundation @mikeroweworks.org A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4PM to 8PM at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD. 20646. Service and Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601 on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11AM. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers are Billie Weedon, Dane Snapko, Adam Snapko, Pat Boyd, Tony Boyd, and Roger Willett The family invites all who knew him to join in remembering the man who built so much more than just structures—he built relationships, kindness, and love. Rest in peace. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of those you touched.
