    Barbara Lee Kane

    January 4, 1942 - March 4, 2022

Barbara Lee Rollins Kane, 80, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on March 4, 2022. The youngest of 13 children, she was born at home in Washington DC on January 4, 1942. Barbara graduated Gwynn Park High School in 1959. She met Thomas Marion Kane and they were wed on October 15, 1960. They were married for 45 years and raised their 3 children in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. In 2006, Thomas passed away and she remained in Maryland. Over the years, Barbara worked in a variety of jobs including clerical, floral arranging, childcare, banking and tourism. In 2002, Barbara retired from Suntrust Bank after 25 years of dedicated service in branch management and commercial banking. In 2008, she began working for the St. Mary’s County Maryland Chamber of Commerce and retired from there in 2018. Barbara was an extraordinary woman who bloomed and then blossomed, inspiring us all to do the same. A lifelong learner, she never stopped pursuing her passions - which were varied and incredibly inspirational. She was a Master Gardener. She was the family historian and genealogy became a labor of love for the family. She enjoyed learning about local history which then sparked a keen interest in archaeology, which she pursued for a time. Always exploring new ways to create, she was an avid painter and loved to create jewelry, paper, and felt. She also crocheted blankets for cancer patients and made rosaries for soldiers overseas. Barbara created not only for herself but for the sheer pleasure her artistry brought others. Survived by her children, their spouses, and grandchildren, they were truly the lights of her life: Kevin Kane and Susan Kostick Kane of Forest City, PA; Laura Kane Roland and Matthew Roland of Raleigh, NC; Dennis Kane and Melissa Quinley of Washington DC. Grandchildren - Stephen Kane and his wife, Sarah Kane; Christina Kane; Claire Roland and her husband Christopher Salisbury; Kane Roland; Brogan Roland and his wife Abigail Roland, and great grandchildren: Scarlett Kane and James Roland. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings: William Rollins, Daniel Rollins, Helen Rollins, Paul Rollins, Edith Rollins, Robert Rollins, Joseph Rollins, Lawrence Rollins, Maria Rollins, Frances Rollins Kaplan, David Rollins, and Mary Patricia Rollins Pickeral. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews as well many friends and neighbors whom she loved so well. Services will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Pl, Bryantown, MD 20617 on Friday, March 11, 2022. Visitation starts at 11:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm. Interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601 will be immediately after the mass.
