    Betty Jo Boothe

    March 26, 1942 - February 7, 2020

Betty Jo Boothe, 77, of Brandywine, MD passed away peacefully on February 7, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born in Pensacola, FL on March 26, 1942 to the late Joseph H. Anderson, Sr. and Lillian A. Anderson, Betty is also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph H. Anderson, Jr. She is survived by her dedicated husband of over 57 years, Franklin “Sonny” Boothe; her loving daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Marty Thorp; and her beautiful granddaughter, Olivia. Betty began her career at Andrews Air Force Base, working in the base hospital before moving to become administrative assistant to the Vice-Base Commander. She found her calling, though, after making a career change to the US Air Force Contracting Office. Eventually, she left Andrews, became a Contracting Manager for the US Navy at the Washington Navy Yard, and ended her career as Chief, Building Operations Branch for the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. When she retired in 2000, she had spent over 38 successful and enjoyable years with the federal government. Not one to sit home, Betty quickly settled into a new position as Contracting Manager with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. She retired in 2012 and set out to do the job she loved the most, as wife, mother, and grandmother. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Her love for others, coupled with her generous spirit, made each day an adventure in her eyes. Her favorite expression was always, “Thanks for coming!” Friends and loved-ones are invited to a visitation on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, and on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00am. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at noon. Rev. Tim Bean will officiate the service with Rev. Fred Caudle, Minister Rob Gaines, and Rev. Bill Hosier assisting. Services will be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, PA (211 St. Mary’s Ave., LaPlata, MD). Interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens (3221 Mattawoman-Beantown, Rd., Waldorf, MD). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the INOVA Schar Cancer Institute/Melanoma Research Fund (8110 Gatehouse Rd., Suite 200 East, Falls Church, VA 22042), or at https://www.inova.org/our-services/inova-schar-cancer-institute. Online condolences to the family may be shared at arehartechols.com.
