Alvenia Cooper Wynn's Obituary
ALVENIA COOPER WYNN, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, was born on May 28, 1947, in Warrenton, North Carolina to the late Vivian Williams and Charlie Cooper. Alvenia, affectionately known to everyone as “Grandma,” gained her heavenly wings on October 13, 2024. God picked a beautiful flower from His earthly garden to be a part of His glorious heavenly bouquet.
Alvenia was educated in the North Carolina school system, graduating from John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton, North Carolina. She furthered her education at Felician College in Rutherford, New Jersey, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. With a deep desire to serve, she began her career as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Orange, New Jersey, and later worked at Orange Memorial Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey. Her love for family and children led her to become a School Nurse at St. Benedict High School in Newark and Essex Catholic High School in East Orange, New Jersey. Alvenia’s commitment to patient care extended beyond the school setting, providing optimal and compassionate care to countless clients as a private duty nurse. Throughout her 40+ years in the medical field, Alvenia was known for her heart of gold and unwavering dedication to others, often placing their needs above her own. She retired from East Orange General Hospital in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and professionalism.
On July 5, 1980, she married her beloved husband, Sammy Wynn, and together they raised four beautiful children, a role she cherished above all others. As a loving mother, Alvenia served as a moral compass for her children, instilling in them the values of compassion, integrity, and hard work. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family; she welcomed countless children into her home, especially her sons' friends, affectionately known as her “football boys.” Her home was a haven filled with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of her baked goods. Alvenia had a passion for baking that brought joy to all who tasted her cookies, pound cakes, and desserts. She took pride in preparing meals and treats for her grandsons’ football team and rarely missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren at games, dance recitals, competitions, or championships.
A devoted member of Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton, NC, and later Ebenezer Baptist Church in Orange, NJ, Alvenia's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Alvenia is preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Wynn; father, Charlie Cooper; mother, Vivian Williams; and daughter, Fatima Marie Wynn.
She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy two sons; Jonathan McCray Wynn (Yewande’) and Eric Sammy Wynn (Kristy); one daughter, Cassandra Smith; seven grandchildren; Ayanna, Eric Qian, Jonathan Elijah, Kirsten, Kameran, Karissa and Klark; two brothers, Charles Cleveland Cooper (Carol) and Kelly Cooper (Mary) along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will forever remember her radiant spirit and loving heart.
