Ann Gertrude Briscoe's Obituary
Ann Gertrude Briscoe, affectionally known as “Nanny” and “Momma Bris”, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2023, at the age of 82.
Ann was born on January 20, 1941, to the late George Ollie and Mary Gertrude Coombs. She was raised in LaPlata in Charles County, Maryland and grew up in a loving family and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was educated in Charles County Public Schools. She then went on to work for a private company until 1965 when she obtained federal employment at the General Services Administration (GSA) until her retirement in 1997. She was a faithful civil servant.
In her youth, she enjoyed playing softball. Ann’s love for softball continued into adulthood. The Washington Senators and the Berry Road Orioles were her favorite teams.
On July 5, 1958, Ann married the love of her life, Joseph Briscoe, Sr., and from that union, they were blessed with seven children: Jacqueline, Belinda, Philis, Joseph Jr., Gregory, Kevin, and Jerod. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. The love that she had for her family was unconditional. There was nothing that she would not do for them.
Ann loved the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the National Church of God in Ft. Washington, Maryland. She was a remarkable woman with the love she gave and the lives she touched. Her heart was a heart of a servant and she enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends. She was always trying to be a blessing to others. She lived her life reflecting the love of God. She had the joy of the Lord (Nehemiah 8:10) and brought laughter and smiles to everyone she encountered. Her laughter was infectious and all who heard it, remember the occasion.
Ann had a beautiful personality and loved everyone, especially her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, taking family trips to the beach, national parks, and the zoo. Working crossword puzzles and going to gospel programs with her sister Ernestine (Tennie) Coombs were also some of her favorite past times.
Ann was a wonderful woman whose impact will be forever felt by her family, who loves her so much. We are so grateful and truly blessed to have had her in our lives and we will forever cherish every precious memory.
