Ann Mathews Sexton's Obituary
Amy Mathews Sexton, 52, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a valiant fight against an auto-immune disease, Dermatomyositis.
Born on December 31, 1969 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of Connie Rutledge and the late Jack D. Mathews. Amy was a Budget Program Financial Manager at the NSWC in Indian Head, Maryland for many years. She enjoyed traveling, watching NASCAR and Indy Racing, spending time with family, entertaining at home, being a “sports mom” and active with the Mt. Hope PTA when her sons where in school. Amy was active with NETS, helping with needy families and was active with the Christmas Santa Shop Store and Giveaway. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Marbury Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, Amy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Summers and Della Redden; paternal grandparents, Louis and Essie Mathews; aunts Linda Redden, Juanita Coomes, Mary Jean Mathews, and Barbara Cockerham; uncles Wayne Mathews and Danny Cockerham.
Along with her mother Connie and step father Mike Rutledge, Amy is survived by her sons Andrew Eugene and Cody Mathew Sexton; brother Jack (Matt) Mathews (Kim); Daniel and Alex Matthews; aunts Jean SanLuis, Jean Rogers, and Janet Mathews; uncles David and Bobby (Wanda) Mathews; many close and special nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with Prayers at 7:30PM at the Marbury Baptist Church, 4670 Bicknell Road, Marbury, Maryland 20658.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11AM at the Marbury Baptist Church, 4670 Bicknell Road, Marbury, Maryland 20658 with the Reverend Tim Bean officiating.
Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. Pallbearers are Andrew Sexton, Cody Sexton, Matt Mathews, Daniel Mathews, Colt Sexton, and RJ Sexton.
