Anna Mae Sackie's Obituary
Anna Mae (Lynn) Sackie, 94, of La Plata, MD died Sunday, June 4, 2023, at home with family at her side. She was a retired hairdresser, owner/operator of Anna Mae's Beauty Shop, for over 50 years out of her home. She was a very kind, loving soul to all she knew.
Born March 23, 1929 and raised in Indian Head, MD, she attended Lackey High School and enjoyed the sports of playing basketball and baseball and after she graduated spent several years afterwards organizing the Lackey class reunions. After graduation she attended Towson University to become a teacher then decided to go to beauty school in D.C. to become a hairdresser. While living on the base in Indian Head, she met her forever husband, a Marine, and raised 5 children; 4 boys and 1 daughter. In Anna Mae's spare time she enjoyed duck pin bowling with her team called "The Pincurlers", and attended opening baseball games. She then later became a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 82 of La Plata, Md. She and her husband were known as excellent dance partners attending many dances at the legion, and she held several positions in the Ladies' Auxiliary and actively assisted with working the Bingos held on Thursday evenings. She dedicated many hours supporting our Veterans and local charities, attending 8&40 meetings and Legion conventions held in Ocean City, Md. She also enjoyed being the best day care provider for her two of her grandchildren, Deanna and Brent. Anna Mae was also a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomfret, Md.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Sackie and her oldest son, Michael Sackie, her parents and her 4 siblings. She is survived by her 3 sons;
J. Lyle Sackie, Jerry (Susan) Sackie, Steve (Mary) Sackie and daughter; Sandra (Chip) Huntt, and by her 7 grandchildren; Deanna (Drew) Wilson, Brent (Alyssa) Huntt, Jesse Sackie, Clint Sackie, Michael Sackie Jr, Stephanie (Erick) Gragg, and Tommy (Carrie) Moore and 3 great-grandchildren; Emily Gragg, Bentley Sackie and Finnegan Wilson, all who she loved dearly.
Visitation to begin at 10 AM at Raymond Funeral Service in La Plata MD, followed by a service at 11 AM, Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens located at 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
Repast will be at Waldorf Moose Lodge, 4765 Crain Hwy, White Plains, MD 20695 from Noon till 2:30pm for all family and friends.
