CATHLEEN MARIE LYON's Obituary
With profound sorrow and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the Lyon family announces the passing of their beloved matriarch, Cathleen Marie “Kitty” Lyon. Kitty entered eternal rest in the early morning hours of April 10, 2026, peacefully surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 91.
A woman of steadfast faith, Kitty’s life was a testament to her devotion to Christ. She gently and faithfully guided her children and grandchildren in the ways of the Lord. Her faith was the foundation upon which her family was built—an enduring source of strength, comfort, and grace. With a spirit both humble and wise, she offered a listening ear, a compassionate heart, and a presence that brought peace to those around her. She extended her love and faith to her friends, often leading them in prayer groups and fellowship.
Kitty found joy in life’s simple and creative pleasures. She was an avid gardener, a gifted crafter, a talented singer in the church choir and a painter who expressed beauty through her art. As a member of the Port Tobacco Art Guild, she shared her talents with her community. Yet, above all else, her greatest joys were her love for the Lord and the deep, abiding love she held for her family. She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, William D. “Bill” Lyon; her son, James W. “Wally” Lyon; and her granddaughter, Tara L. Lyon.
Kitty’s legacy lives on through her devoted children: Sally L. Therres and her husband James; William R. “Robby” Lyon and his wife Deborah; Scott D. Lyon and his wife Kendra; and Cecilia C. “Cece” Owens. She is also lovingly remembered by her fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward her spirit of faith, kindness, and quiet strength. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Kitty’s life. A wake will be held beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. A funeral service and casket closing will take place at 10:00 a.m. the following morning, also at the funeral home, followed by interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the College of Southern Maryland Foundation in support of the Cathleen and William “Bill” Lyon Memorial Scholarship, honoring Kitty’s enduring commitment to faith, family, and future generations. Donations may be made online or by mail to the CSM Foundation, P.O. Box 910, La Plata, MD 20646.
