CHARLES EDWARD AUSTIN JR's Obituary
Charles Edward Austin Jr., lovingly known as Charlie, passed away on March 28, 2026 at home, with his wife Betty and their family by his side.
Charlie was born to Patsy and Charles E. Austin Sr. in Baltimore MD. on August 18, 1956. He was the oldest of three children. His family moved to Charles County in the early 60’s, he helped build the family home on Gardiner Rd where he lived and worked for his Mother and Father at Austin Asphalt.
After the untimely death of his father, then 17-year-old Charlie took over Austin Asphalt and with his wife, Betty, successfully operated the family business for over 50 years.
Charlie was a cherished husband to Betty, Father to Anita and Carolynn, Father-in-law to Todd, brother, to JoAnn and Joe Sr., PopPop to Erik and Kyle Great PopPop to Audrey & Karson, brother-in-law, Uncle and friend to so many that loved him. Charlie is preceded in death by his Mother, Patsy, his Father, Charles Sr. his brother Joe, and his granddaughter Natalie Ann Fleenor.
He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, creativity, loyalty and deep love for his family
Charlie had a larger-than-life personality and passions that matched it. He loved asphalt, big trucks, heavy equipment, historic cars, music (the macarena), and golf to name a few. To Charlie, Asphalt wasn’t just his job, it was his craft. He took immense pride in everything he built and paved.
One of Charlies favorite accomplishments was rebuilding a 1930 Model A ford. Another was his white/purple fender Mack truck. These projects reflected his creativity, dedication, skill and love for all things classic. Charlie loved the roar of a big block and the crack of a jake brake.
Charlie was loved beyond measure. While Alzheimer’s may have taken much from him, it couldn’t touch the love that surrounded him every day. Now he is at peace, free from this illness. He is able to rest whole again and remember those who never stopped loving him.
Charlies’ memory will live on in every story told, every song danced to, and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
