Charles Frederick Gooding Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Frederick Gooding Jr, 86 of Accokeek Maryland passed on January 7, 2024. He was
born in Washington, DC at George Washington University Hospital to Charles Frederick Sr and
Edna Elizabeth Gooding on October 6, 1937.
He served in The Armed Forces of the United States in the National Guard in the 1960’s. He then began working at Litton Industries as a Machinist.
He received his Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship from the Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training in Washington, DC In the Trade of Machinist under Sponsorship of Litton Industries, Maryland Division, College Park, MD on September 14, 1959.
He met and fell in love with Mary Ann Settle and married on July 28, 1964. Together they had 3
children from 1966 to 1973.
He loved his vegetable garden, cutting grass in his earlier years, woodworking, playing horseshoes, a game of basketball (horse) and loved bowling. He enjoyed the holidays with family and anything that gathered family together. He loved sitting on their covered porch listening to the rain while it thundered and lighting far away.
In 1970 he joined The Bechdon Company in Marlow Heights, MD as a Machinist and transitioned to their new location in Upper Marlboro, MD on Commerce Lane where he continued until he retired at the age of 70. He received contribution acknowledgement awards through the company. He has mentored many associates at Bechdon that he enjoyed working with and loved helping not only in his working career but in personal lives every day.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary and parents. He is survived by his children Tammy Martucci, Charles Gooding III, Christine Mulrooney, Cheryl Dolan, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, sisters - Virginia Thompson, Joan Watson, Gloria Mackey and many other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 10:30 AM until time of Service at 12:30 PM, at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
