Charles Regan Gray Jr,'s Obituary
On October 9, 2016, Charles Regan Gray, Jr. died at his eldest daughter's home in Cheverly, MD. Chuck "Reg" Gray, the eldest of three sons of Charles Regan Gray and Barbara Allison Brown, was born in Washington, PA on March 31, 1942. Chuck grew up in Youngstown, OH and graduated in the first four-year class of Cardinal Mooney H.S. in 1960. He earned Bachelor and Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Chuck retired in 1999 after 32 years of service at the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak, MD and Dahlgren, VA where he specialized in underwater acoustic systems.
There was nothing more important to Chuck than his faith and his family; although playing golf and following the Washington D.C. pro sports teams were a close #3 and 4. Chuck was an active parishioner, daily mass attendee, and volunteer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD where he served as a lector, sacristan, usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Cheverly, MD to live with his daughter, he continued his daily mass attendance at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cheverly, MD until the time of his death.
Chuck was preceded in death by his infant daughter Mary (1964), second wife Barbara Agnes Wilkinson (nee Strobel) (2014), a native of Waldorf, MD, and his step-daughter Cynthia Marie Wilkinson (1993). Chuck is survived by his 6 children, Kenny (Laurie), Peggy Clark (Marco), Kathy Pappas (Cooper), Mickey (Chris), Jennifer, and Brian (Diana); 12 grandchildren; and two brothers James Allison (Novato, CA) and Robert Elmer (Youngstown, OH).
Services will take place at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 3107 63rd Avenue, Cheverly, MD 20785. The viewing will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 4-7 pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016. Interment immediately following at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bishop McNamara High School Scholarship Fund, 6800 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD 20747.
