Charlie Joe Spivey's Obituary
Charlie Joe Spivey, 89, of King George, Virginia, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 22, 1935 in Soperton, Georgia, he was the son of the late George and Eula (Mathis) Spivey. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in 1956. He then went to work as a maintenance mechanic at Royster Phosphate Plant in Mulberry, Florida. He later joined the boilermakers union, local 433 and transferred to local 193 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1978, he took a position at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland where he retired as a contracting officer in 1994. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and U.S. Army National Guard, retiring from the Guard in 1995.
Charlie was a Mason with the St. Columba Masonic Lodge Number 150 in La Plata. He was also a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) in Romney, West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his siblings Newbern Spivey, Syble Nichols, Randall Spivey, Roy Spivey, David Spivey, and Sarah Joyce Spivey.
Charlie is survived by his wife Charlotte Spivey; children Steven Spivey, Stacey Spivey, Stanley Spivey, Tami Gardiner and step daughter Margaret South; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; siblings Robert Spivey and Mary "Susie" Whitmer; also by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
Interment to follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3321 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s name to the Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Avenue, Suite 401, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.
