Christine Rose Craver's Obituary
Christine Rose Craver, born on February 13, 1932 in the small coal mining town of Tams, West Virginia, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the age of 87 in her home in Falls Church, Virginia. Christine grew up in the hills of West Virginia, the third of 9 children born to William Eldin Rose and Pearl Ethel (Blevins) Rose.
At the young age of 18, she and her sister Clementine traveled to New Jersey and worked in an Owens glass factory, screening out defective bottles. Her older sister Eldine invited them to the Hampton/Newport News area. Christine found work as a telephone operator. Soon after, she met the love of her life Larry Wayne Craver at a prayer meeting in Eldine’s home, and had many other contacts at Youth for Christ meetings. They fell in love and married on September 7, 1957 in Newport News.
They lived in various locations throughout their 62 years of marriage: Atlanta near Georgia Tech; Columbia Bible College in South Carolina; Wheaton, Maryland; Cheltenham, England; and Falls Church, Virginia. They traveled with their kids throughout the United States as much as they could. They went out west to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon, and down south to Florida every year to visit Larry’s parents.
She was a home maker as soon as their first child came and devoted her life to the children. Throughout her life, Christine loved generously. She made it her life goal to love those around her by bringing Christ’s love to them – with home cooked meals, elaborate wedding cakes, their names in calligraphy with Scripture to bless them, and praying for them. She always made time for others, always cared for them.
Christine is survived by her sister, Eldine Crockett and her brother George Rose. As well, she leaves behind her husband, Larry Craver, her nine children: Melissa Payne, Martha DeCarlo, Mary Craver, Frances Cannon, Timothy Craver, Ruth Wilson, Rachel Hackenberg, Rebecca Craver, and Esther Lockerby; and her 36 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren as well as numerous in-laws and friends.
