Obituary for Christine Bowling Curtis
Christine Bowling Curtis, 84, of New Carrollton, Maryland, died on January 18, 2017 at Heartfields in Bowie.
Born on November 13, 1932 in La Plata, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Mattingly Bowling and the late Obadiah Bowling. Mrs. Curtis graduated from La Plata High School, Class of ’50, and was the Valedictorian. Upon her graduation from high school, she moved to Washington, DC to work at the Department of Justice as the Secretary to the Assistant Attorney General. In high school, she met her future husband, Mitchell Franklin Curtis and a year later, he was drafted to the military. Upon his return from the military, the two were married and raised a family. Mrs. Curtis was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, serving as the church secretary, the New Member secretary and member of the choir. One of her passions was gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Kymberly Bowling Curtis; siblings Melvin Bowling and Hazel Raphun.
In addition to her husband Mitchell, she is survived by her children Mitchell Franklin Curtis II and Dona Allyson; brother Gilbert “Buddy” Bowling.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 10 AM until 11 AM with services to begin at 11 AM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD 20646.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made in Christine Bowling Curtis’ name to the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter, P.O. Box 96011Washington, DC 20090-6011.
