Clara Ethel Getman's Obituary
Clara Getman, 20 days after celebrating her 100th birthday with scores of children, grandchildren and countless friends at the Brandywine Senior Center, Rehoboth, died peacefully of heart failure on January 22, 2019. Her five children and spouses gathered at her bedside on Saturday the 19th to say a prayerful farewell.
A widow for nearly 30 years she never flagged in her love for God, church, family and devoted friends during her marriage to Dr. G.N. Getman, where they lived in Luverne, Minnesota, and later in Pennsylvania, California, and Waldorf.
Clara Ethel Mains born in Seymour, Indiana on Jan. 2, 1919, moved with her parents as an infant to Phoenix, Arizona. She was a 1936 honors graduate of Phoenix Union High School and a 1940 graduate of the University of Southern California with a major in history. The telling result of her impact is a large number of her more than 40 children and grandchildren are in ministries, education and other service professions today.
The last of her generation she was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Clara; her brothers: Thomas, Charles; and her beloved husband of 50 years Gerald, and all his immediate family of parents and siblings.
Her children: Thomas, James, Cynthia, Charles and William all lived to adulthood and continue to thrive nurtured by iconic forebears, especially the faithful follower of Jesus, Clara Ethel Mains Getman.
Internment was in Waldorf on January 25 and the memorial service was in Haddonfield, NJ, on the 27th.
