Edith Kathleen Schmitz's Obituary
Edith Kathleen Schmitz, 83 of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away on February 5, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Peter William Schmitz Jr. and Marjorie Helen (McBain) Schmitz on February 21, 1940.
After high school Edie worked at Peoples drug store as soda fountain clerk, and then CVS as a photo technician. She was the loving mother of 8 children. She enjoyed singing, Karaoke, art, fishing, spending time with all of her family. She was a proud member of the Women’s Republican party, and a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter 1387.
She rejoins her parents in heaven after a hard battle with cancer. She is survived by her children; Bonnie Ballengee (Ralph), Deborah Canter, Sherri Bennett (Gregory Sr.), Paul Smith (Dawn), Steven Smith (Julie), Patricia Rabasco, Carol Norwood (David), Will Smith (Heather), 21 Grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Along with many other extended family and loving friends.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Edies name to Childrens National Hospital, Oncology unit in Washington DC, in memory of her great granddaughter Kayla Kiley.
Visitation will be held on February 15th,2024 in Raymond Funeral Services Chapel from 2pm-4pm, then 6pm-8pm. Service will be the following day at 10am, followed by interment at Trinity memorial gardens.
