Edmond "Buck" Roosevelt Carrington Jr's Obituary
Edmond Roosevelt Carrington, Jr.
Edmond “Buck” Roosevelt Carrington, Jr., was born January 13, 1950 in Clarksville, Virginia, the fourth of five children to the late Edmond Roosevelt Carrington, Sr. and the late Mary Overbey Carrington. Buck gave his life to Jesus at an early age and joined St. John Baptist Church in Clarksville, Virginia. In June 1961, the Carrington family re-located to Pisgah, Maryland; Buck was eleven years old at the time. Buck continued going to worship with his mother and as an adult, attending Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marbury, Maryland. Buck graduated from Lackey High School in Indian Head, where he was the star quarterback. He became known as the “Golden Arm.” He received a Football Scholarship to Maryland State College, Eastern Shore, where he continued with the same reputation until problems with his knees interrupted a very promising career. Although he endured surgeries from the Redskins Orthopedic Doctor, he was not able to resume his career as a quarterback. After dropping out of college, he realized that throughout life’s disappointments and challenges, you have to implement Plan B. Buck started his government career with the District of Columbia as a Sewage Disposal Plant Operator, and continued employment there until he retired. In addition, after his retirement he worked as a Caregiver providing services for individuals with physical and mental challenges. He found that job very rewarding.
In June 2016, Buck was diagnosed with Dementia. He spent several months in Howard University Hospital before transitioning as a resident to Kensington Nursing and Rehab Center, Kensington, Maryland, in October 2016. He was loved and respected by staff and residents. Buck was kind hearted and compassionate. He loved his Lord, Jesus Christ and his family. He was never known to inflict injury upon any person or animal. However, he did not take the best care of himself. We always told him to hold on to God’s unchanging hands because they are the only hands that never change. They are the same today as they were yesterday, and they will be the same tomorrow.
In November 2017, his health really declined, but God granted him mercy and called him to his eternal home on December 8th, 2017 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Alice Stewart (James), Queen Myers (Robert); one sister-in-law, Deborah Carrington; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Graham; special cousin, Rev. Dr. Melbalenia Evans; two uncles, John Carrington (Marie) and Gerall Wood (Carmen); one aunt, Ruby Carrington, two nieces, six nephews; and other relatives. Additionally, his special friends, Michael Barbour, David Warren, Ronnie Brown, Wayne Waters, and Wayne Montgomery who visited with him frequently. Buck was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Gross-Graham; brother, Charles Carrington; and his niece, Tiffani Carrington. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until Homegoing Service 11:00 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel 20605 Aquasco Road Aquasco, Md 20608. Interment Trinity Memorial Gardens Waldorf, Maryland.
