Edward Xavier "Boe" Briscoe Sr.'s Obituary
Edward Xavier "Boe" Briscoe, Sr. (Age 79) of La Plata, Maryland.
Edward Xavier Briscoe Sr., affectionately known as Boe was born, Sunday, August 22, 1937 to Francis and Estelle Briscoe. Boe was born in Pomfret and raised in White Plains MD. He was an active member of St. Joseph Church in Pomfret MD. He was a true friend of the Lord and made sure that his children and grandchildren attended church on Sundays. Boe obtained his education in the Charles County Public School System up until 6th grade when he left school to go work on the farm with his father. He worked various jobs such as a truck driver for Otis Davis at National Bohemian, a driver for Robinson & Haas Lumber and he also worked for Snorter Martins Gas Station in LaPlata MD. In 1968 Boe began his career at Neil Myers Texaco in Waldorf until he retired in September of 2013. Boe was known by many for his phenomenal mechanical skills. If it was broke Boe could fix it. All you had to do was take it “Up Shop”. He repaired most of the Charles County Sheriff Departments fleet of cars and most people wouldn’t allow anyone but him to work on their vehicles.
In 1956 Boe met the love of his life, Elaine. Boy was he crazy about Elaine!! On January 18, 1958 the two became one in Holy Matrimony!! From that union they had 10 beautiful children that they cherished dearly. Some of Boe’s favorite past times were listening to Jimmy Reed, Otis Redding or some Blues while drinking his 6 pack. Boe also loved to watch and play baseball and everybody knew “Berry Road beat and Wicomico cheat”. He enjoyed taking his family for Sunday drives across the Harry Nice Bridge and stopping by Twin Kiss on the way back. Almost every evening you would hear that 56’ Pontiac coming and all the kids would yell “Here come Daddy” because they knew he had Ice Cream Sandwiches. Boe was truly a family man and loved to attend family functions. He loved to dance and whenever there was music everybody knew Boe would be the last one to leave. He loved to have a good time and you would often hear him sing “I can dance all by myself, I don’t need nobody else”. Boe was also known for his kind and loving heart. Whether he knew you or not he would give you his last and the shirt off his back, didn’t matter if you were “black, white, grizzle or grey”.
Though he loved all his grandchildren equally, he had a special bond with his baby boys, Juwuan, Jemone and Jemarri aka Little Buddy. He took great joy coming home from work to see what his boys were up to. They could get away with almost anything when he was home. Grandma would scold them for misbehaving and he would always say “Laine, leave them boys alone”. Boe had so much joy and love in his heart and was a special man. A man of valor with great morals and values. He was a leader and a man after Gods own heart. Boe most definitely left a mark on this world and a memory in each of our hearts. He will truly be missed and we understand why God didn’t want to go another day without him by his side.
Boe is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Sara Estelle (Brawner) Briscoe; children, Edward Jr. “Poo Poo” and Debra Briscoe; brothers, Robert “Puddin” and Joseph Briscoe; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Agnes Duckett.
