Elsie Zollicoffer Nixon's Obituary
Elsie Z. Nixon, of Mechanicsville MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Washington Hospital Center. She was the daughter of the late Eula and Lewis Zollicoffer of Durant, MS. She was a graduate of Mississippi Valley State and the University of Indiana. She taught elementary school for many years and loved her job and the children she taught.
After receiving her education, she met the love of her life, Robert Nixon and they were married on July 17, 1965. She not only enjoyed being a loving wife but she was a full-time mother to her daughter, Zelnita. She enjoyed talking on the phone to her friends and family which she would do for hours. She also was an amazing grandmother to her only grandson, Cayden.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her three siblings, Leana Rodgers, Bertha Landfair and James Zollicoffer.
Elsie leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving husband, Robert; one beloved daughter, Zelnita Byrd (Corey) and her grandson, Cayden Byrd. She also leaves behind one sister, Lois Vollicoffer; two sisters-in-law, Delma Brown and Edna Ray (Herman), many nieces and nephews; very special friend, Billie Jean Joiner and many other friends who she always held dear to her heart. Elsie will always live on in our hearts and be remembered as the generous, loving, funny and caring woman that she was.
Family and friends will unite on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 for visitation at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Waldorf, 10045 Bunker Hill Road, Waldorf, MD. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3165 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
