Emma Louise Licurgo's Obituary
Emma Louise Licurgo
May 12, 1934 – May 15, 2023
Emma Louise (Schell) Licurgo went peacefully home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2023 after battling dementia for several years. She was the daughter of the late James Schell and Dorothy (Christy) Schell of Freeland, Pennsylvania, who both preceded her in death. Emma is survived by three sons and three daughters-in law: Bill & Carolyn Licurgo of Colonial Beach, VA; Jim & Marcia Licurgo of Conway, SC; and Bob & Jenna Licurgo of Huntingtown, MD. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her younger sister, Gloria Polchin of Venice, FL.
Emma was born in Freeland, Pennsylvania, a small town on the outskirts of Hazleton. She married William “Bill” Licurgo on August 11th, 1956. Bill and Emma moved their young family to Maryland in 1960 where they spent the remainder of their lives. They were married for 54 years at the time of Bill’s death in September, 2010. Emma enjoyed a 47-year career as a Registered Nurse and her patients adored her, showering her with gifts on special occasions.
Over the years, Emma enjoyed bowling with her bowling team, playing Bunco with her neighborhood friends, going to movies, and eating out. But, her first love was spending time with her family.
Emma will be missed by all who knew her gentle and loving ways, but we are grateful knowing her healing is complete as she rests easy in the arms of her loving heavenly Father.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
