Frederick "Fred" Bruce Pumphrey's Obituary
Frederick “Fred” Bruce Pumphrey, Sr., 82, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born January 2, 1943, in Alexandria, Virginia, and lived the majority of his life in the home he built in Golden Beach, Maryland, where he resided for over 40 years before moving to Myrtle Beach in 2024.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Margaret Pumphrey; his brother, Ralph Pumphrey; and his sister, Barbara Webster. He is survived by his fiancée, Bobbi MacFarlane; his children, Fred Pumphrey, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Todd Pumphrey and wife Tammy, Bryan Pumphrey and wife Kerri, and daughter Lisa Conn, along with ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
At an early age, Fred caught the entrepreneurial spirit, purchasing his first business, Fred’s Liquor and Sporting Goods, at age 26. Over the years, he owned and operated businesses in real estate, fashion retail, restaurants, and construction. He was also a founding member of the Mechanicsville Jaycees. Fred took great pride in building not only structures, but people—mentoring others and helping them achieve their business and personal goals.
Never content with keeping his feet solely on the ground, Fred earned his private pilot’s license and proudly flew his Cherokee Six, tail number 2870 Tango. He also enjoyed boating, often heading south during the colder Maryland winters. Though he lived in a small town, Fred’s impact reached far beyond it, touching multiple communities through his work, leadership, and generosity.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Maryland.
