Mr. George Anderson Vann, Jr.'s Obituary
George Anderson Vann Jr., of Reedy, West Virginia, passed away April 17, 2016 at his home.
He was born Sept. 9, 1934 in Erwin, NC, a son of the late George Anderson and Mary Etta Moore Vann Sr. He served in the U.S. Marines and worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union in Maryland where he built skyrises, shopping centers and bridges among other things. He also worked for the State Department of Corrections in Maryland. He resided in Maryland for over 43 years before moving to West Virginia.
George married the love of his life, the late Thelma Lenore Schroyer Vann and was married for over 54 years. Out of this union he had three daughters, Susan Lenora Vann Brooks, with whom he made his home in Reedy, Darlene Lucille Huntt of Waldorf, MD, and Mary Beth Toohey of Cave City, Kentucky; and two sons, Stephen Vann of Edgewater, MD and George Christopher Vann of Waldorf. He is also survived by one sister, Eloise Stewart of Raleigh, NC; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and his wife, George was preceded in death by his siblings, Walt, Moses, Sexton, Bernice, Ruth and Elizabeth.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Waldorf, MD, with Pastor John Farrish officiating. Entombment will be in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, with military rites. Visiting hours will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at the church.
Arehart-Echols Funeral Home will be conducting the services in Maryland. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, WV provided local arrangements for the Vann family. There will be no services or visitation in West Virginia.
