Georgeanna A. Sutton's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Georgeanna Sutton, at Hospice of Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland. Georgeanna transitioned from this world on April 25, 2023, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, unwavering devotion, and boundless love. Georgeanna’s legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born on March 29, 1943, in Nansemond, Virginia, with a very spiritual upbringing, Georgeanna attended catholic school and graduated from the prestigious Cortez Peters Business College. At the age of 18, she boldly relocated to Washington, D.C. with her high school sweetheart in 1961; they were married in 1964 at New Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Walter Fauntroy. She shared an enduring bond of 58 years in marriage with her beloved husband, Albert Lee Sutton. She devoted her life to her children, which she called her greatest achievements, leaving her position at the Pentagon when her first child was born.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Isaac Shields of North Carolina and Mamie Riddick of Trenton, New Jersey; her brother Glenroy Riddick; and her granddaughter Jasymne Sutton.
She is survived by: her sons Terry D. Sutton (Sonia) and Larry D. Sutton (Jialita); and her grandsons: Larry Sutton, Jr., Tonio Sutton, LaMarr Sutton, Lazarus Sutton, Brian Sutton, Lleyton Sutton and Lawyer Sutton; and granddaughters, Briana Sutton, Desiree Sutton, Chantelle Sutton and London Sutton; her sister, Marion Bragg and nephew Ronald Bragg and niece Kimberly Hammond. She is also survived by her extended family of many more nieces, nephews; her husband’s siblings, which she considered her own, as well as many friends all of which she loved so dearly.
Georgeanna was the embodiment of love. While she possessed a natural talent for business and had a remarkable ability to connect with people, her greatest achievement was the love she poured into the development of her children. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to their upbringing, showering them with love. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to their well-being were evident in every moment she spent guiding, teaching, and cherishing them. Her legacy lives on through the values she instilled, forever etched in their hearts, guiding them through life’s journey.
Georgeanna’s adventurous spirit led her on journeys far and wide, exploring the beauty and diversity of our world with travels to Paris, Portugal, Casablanca, Rome, Berlin, Switzerland, London, Ireland, the Caribbeans, Africa, and more. Her passion for travel was a testament to her love for new experiences and the people she encountered along the way. She had an uncanny ability to connect with others, forming lasting bonds and leaving an indelible mark on every soul she met.
Beyond her love for travel, Georgeanna had an innate capacity to see the beauty in life’s smallest moments. Her joy was infectious, and her laughter was a melody that echoed in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in her company. She was a pillar of strength, offering unwavering support and a listening ear to those in need. She loved life, nature, and adored interacting with people, especially teaching children. Her love for family and friends was the cornerstone of her existence.
Georgeanna’s incredible journey through life touched us all, reminding us of the immeasurable impact one person can have on the world. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives of her children, family, and friends, and all who knew her, who carry with them the lessons of love, compassion, and kindness that she so generously bestowed upon them.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Georgeanna’s name to children’s cancer research, a cause that was dear to her heart.
A celebration of Georgeanna’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 100 Village Street, Waldorf, MD 20602. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in commemorating the extraordinary woman she was.
