Gerald Evan Bowie's Obituary
Gerald Evan “Jerry” Bowie, 80, of Port Tobacco, Maryland, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Born on September 27, 1944 in La Plata, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry C. Bowie and Emily C. Bowie. Jerry worked for AT&T for 25 years as a Sales Representative. After he retired, he continued in sales selling appliances at Sears and La Plata TV and Appliance, proving that he could indeed sell ice to an Eskimo! Jerry was an active member of the La Plata United Methodist Church where he performed with the Bell Choir and worked with the United Methodist Men Group. He even enjoyed a short stint with the LPUMC Choir. Jerry’s favorite past times included grocery shopping at every store, building an 80 foot display with HO scale model trains, gardening, fishing, crabbing, playing golf, watching ALL the Hallmark movies and most importantly, spending time with his family and his dog Cody. He looked forward to our weekly family dinners every Sunday. Jerry graduated from La Plata High School in 1962 and still enjoyed monthly lunches with some of his classmates. He was a loyal fan of the Commanders and the Nationals and a Civil War buff. Jerry was never short on jokes and his spoon was always at the ready for "stirring the pot."
Jerry is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughters Angela Mayle and her husband Glenn and Carrie Summers and her husband Joe; sons Kevin Bowie and Chad Pembleton and his wife Lisa and his nine grandchildren; Isabella, Samantha, Nicholas, Kevin, Benjamin, Logan, Kendall, Nicole and Reese. He is also survived by his brothers Donald Bowie and Bruce Bowie; his beloved Aunt Eleanor; nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 from 9AM until time for services to begin at 11AM at the La Plata United Methodist Church, 3 Port Tobacco Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
