Henry was born on December 24, 1931 in Texas to Ivy (Harper) and Henry Cecil Kennedy, Sr.
Henry worked as an Engineer for the Naval Propellant Factory (now Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD). He was an avid computer enthusiast and his favorite activity was learning. He always said that “a well exercised brain is a healthy brain”. He was very musically inclined; he played the trombone in the Texas Marching Band, was the Music Director at multiple churches and a member of the Jolly Timers choir at Whitehall Baptist. He was an active and faithful member of Whitehall Baptist Church in Accokeek, MD.
In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by two wives; Alice Juanita Kennedy, and Loudell “Peggy” Mitchell Kennedy; and a son, Joseph Henry Kennedy.
Henry is survived by his daughter, Lydia Berry and her husband Tom Berry; son, John Kennedy and his wife Dawn Gillings; grandchildren; Tiffany Kalin Maston, Cory Kalin, and Thomas C. Berry; great-grandchildren; Chase Maston, Colton Maston, Kennedy Maston, Conner Kalin, Gabriella Kalin, and Paisley Berry; and brother, Melvin Ray Kennedy and his wife Charlotte Kennedy.
Memories from his brother Melvin: My brother and I always seem to have fun even when we disagreed with each other. He was the one who taught me how to count numbers and to count in many other ways as well. One time when we were "rasseling" we broke the bed down. Mother nearly spanked both of us. Another time we were asked to plow the garden so he got behind the plow and put a rope around me and I pulled the plow like I was his donkey. I will miss his call on my birthday.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 11:00 AM at Whitehall Baptist Church, 1205 Farmington Road E., Accokeek, MD 20607. Interment will follow at Trintiy Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Henry’s name are asked to Whitehall Baptist Church, 1205 Farmington Road E., Accokeek, MD 20607.
