Hilda Louise Hackett-Orlando's Obituary
Hilda Hackett-Orlando 94, of La Plata, MD, passed away on October 16, 2024. Hilda was born on April 16, 1930, in Charles County, Maryland to Orion and Ethel (Moran) Benton. Hilda’s mother passed away when she was 6 years old, and she was raised by her stepmother, Anna Benton.
After graduating from La Plata High School, Hilda began working at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. She later met Raymond Orion Hackett Sr.; they were married in 1945. Hilda left her job to help Raymond run his Texaco Station in Washington, D.C., and together they started their family. They had two children, Deborah (Hackett) Knotts and Raymond O. Hackett Jr. The couple remained happily married for 56 years until Raymond’s death in 1994.
In 2000, Hilda met and later married Carl Orlando, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Raymond O Hackett Sr., her second husband Carl G. Orlando and her daughter Deborah Knotts.
Hilda is survived by her son, Raymond O. Hackett Jr. (Joan) of La Plata, MD; her stepson, Dr. Ronald Orlando (Sharon Gamble) of Athens, GA; her brother Bryant Benton (Lois) of La Plata, MD; her grandchildren Ryan Hackett (Pam), Joel Hackett (Liz), Kaitlyn Hackett, Raymond O Hackett III (Maggie); her step-grandchildren, Maria Orlando, Caroline Harris (Charles) and Leah Orlando; and her great-grandchildren, Avery, Owen, Pierce and Claire Hackett.
Hilda was an essential role in her grandchildren’s lives, helping to ensure they grew into healthy and respectful adults. She was extremely proud of them and was affectionately known as “Granny,” always there to support them.
Carl and Hilda enjoyed being active members of the “Wayward Winnies” and enjoyed traveling extensively in their motorhome, from Canada to Key West and across the East Coast to California.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 10:00 to 12:00 pm with a service beginning at 12:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will follow after the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
