Jane Bussey's Obituary
ane Drinkard Bussey, formally of Waldorf MD, passed away at Riderwood Village in Silver Spring MD, on December 11, 2024. Born May 11, 1939, to the late Therman Cleveland Drinkard and Mary Frances “Pany” Drinkard in Indian Head MD, to a warm and loving family.
Jane was educated in the Charles County Public Schools System and graduated from Lackey Senior High School in 1957. Her high school activities included the Lackey Cheerleaders and Assistant Editor of the Legend 1957 yearbook.
Jane married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life “Dick” Bussey in June 1957 and started a family right away. Together they had three children Karen, Terrie, and Richard. They enjoyed a strong, loving marriage until Dick’s passing in October of 2013.
Jane retired from the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC after many years of service. She was a dedicated Federal Employee using her secretarial skills for various divisions there.
Jane, along with her husband Dick, were Emergency Care Foster Parents for the Charles County Department of Social Services. Jane and Dick sheltered many children in crisis temporarily until a suitable placement was found. Jane also served as a Charles County Courtroom Advocate for Foster Children. She absolutely loved all children, each was taken with special attention, love, and kindness.
Most important to Jane was family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She made sure all Christmas and other holidays were a festive occasion for all. She was happy, and always singing or humming a tune. Famous for her pound cake, she was such a great cook! Always there to help and support all family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband Richard A. Bussey Sr., she is preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Neal Drinkard. She is survived by her children; Karen Diaz (John), Terrie Ney, Richard Bussey Jr. (Melissa). Grandchildren; Jason Diaz, Jeremy Diaz, Joshua Diaz, Roy Ney, Richard Bussey III, Zachary Bussey, and Katharina Bussey Stearns. Great Grandchildren; Tori, Jeremy, Nathaniel, and Hunter Diaz, Kaylee and Ronnie Ney, Ellie, Lilly, and Maybell Diaz and Coraline Bussey. Siblings; Cary Drinkard, Sue Mellott and Gail Taherian. Along with many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are her grandsons Jason Diaz, Jeremy Diaz, Roy Ney, Richard Bussey III, Zachary Bussey, and great grandson Jeremy Diaz.

Visitation will be held on December 23, 2024, from 9:30am until time of service at 11:30am in Raymond Funeral Services Chapel. Following will be Burial at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
