Janis Mabel DePuy's Obituary
Janis Mabel DePuy (Benson), 90, of Solomons Island, MD, peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2024 in Baltimore, MD. Her earthly life began in Baltimore, and her heavenly life began there too. She was born on November 6, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John and Mabel Benson.
She graduated Anacostia High School in 1951 and started her job at the Washington Navy Yard as a Secretary.
She met her beloved husband Frank at Congress Heights United Methodist Church and they were married in 1958. They later welcomed their sons Andrew and Peter to their home in Washington, DC. Janis and Frank moved to Waldorf, Maryland in 1966 where they lived for 36 years. Janis raised their sons, taught piano lessons, and was a member of the Waldorf Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in her spare time. She retired to Asbury Solomons Retirement Community in 2002 alongside Frank. While residing there, she enjoyed playing the piano for Vespers and weekly Sing Along on the assisted living floor, as well as joining in “The Talkers Group” with her friends. Janis was a devoted member of Good Shephard United Methodist Church, Solomons Methodist Church, and Patuxent Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Peter (Renee) and Andrew (Jackie) DePuy; four granddaughters: Amanda Best (Noah and Caleb); Adrianna Cleaveland (Raelynn); Alyssa Chapman (Wyatt and Paisleigh); and Christina DePuy.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Francis (Frank) DePuy; siblings: Marianna Schmidt (Benson), Liz Bio (Benson) and Johnny Benson.
Janis was very dearly loved and admired. She was always faithful, humble, nurturing, kind, and full of light. She was a Christian woman who walked closely with the Lord and spoke often about being eager to go to her forever home in Heaven. We are all eternally grateful for her presence and everything she modeled throughout her blessed life.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday February 22nd from 5pm to 8pm at Raymond Funeral Home and where Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 23rd from 10:30am to 11:30am. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens at 12pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Waldorf Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary at 3245 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20603 or Solomons Asbury Benevolent Fund at 11100 Asbury Circle, Solomons, MD 20688.
