Jeffrey Sebastain Garner's Obituary
Jeffrey Sebastain Garner, 62, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 23, 2024.
Born August 23, 1962 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late James Donald Garner, Sr. and Audrey Eleanor Coombs Garner. Jeff was the Director of Public Works for the Town of La Plata. He was instrumental in the Town's rebuilding after the tornado on April 28, 2002, in spite of the tornado devastating the Town on the same day his father passed away and two weeks after his brother passed away. He also was a Life Member and current President of the Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad (Co. 51), a member and Past Captain of the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department (Co. 1) and past member of the Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Co. 14). Jeff was also very active with Special Olympics Maryland-Charles County, especially with his son Brandon as his partner and assisting as coach in several sports. He enjoyed bowling, watching the Baltimore Ravens, New York Yankees, Washington Capitals, NASCAR, monster trucks, wrestling, and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid country music fan, especially of Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his brothers James Donald (Jamie) Garner Jr. and Joseph Gerard (Joey) Garner Sr.
Jeff is survived by his wife Sharon Garner; sons James Hamilton (Jessica Hamilton), Andrew Spalding (Kirsten Shymansky), and Brandon Garner; and grandchildren Dylan, Isabella, Penelope, and Myles; sisters Vicki Long and Lori Ann Garner; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with Firemen's Prayers at 7:00 PM, at the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, Inc, 911 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM, also at the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, Inc, 911 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3321 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
Pallbearers are James Hamilton, Andrew Spalding, Brandon Garner, Eddy Henderson, Dalton Henderson, JD Garner, Reed Faasen, Bobby Presley, Ben Bates, and Robert Ansell.
