John Thomas Ferguson Sr.'s Obituary
John Thomas Ferguson, Sr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 10, 2025. He was 88 years old.
John who was also known as “Fergie” to his law enforcement colleagues and “Buddy” to his family and friends in Alabama was born in Pickensville, Alabama on July 27, 1937. He was born to Willie Marvin Ferguson and Nancy Jane Swedenburg Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than forty (40) years, Beverly Sue Ferguson, and his second wife Barbara Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, sisters; Irene Webb, Margie Ridgeway, and Christine Bailey, and brothers; Curtis Ferguson and Doug Ferguson.
John is survived by his children; Kay and Gerald Hancock, Fay and Timothy Kuhn, John and Tracey Ferguson, Jr. and James and Jennifer Ferguson, Sr., 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings, Willie Marvin Ferguson, Willie Jean Ferguson, Kathleen Black, Billy and Diane Parsons, Elaine Thomas, Bob and Lilia Morgan, Janice Taylor and many nephews and nieces.
John protected and served his community and country in a career in law enforcement for more than forty (40) years and agencies that included the National Guard (MP), FBI, Metropolitan Police Department, NIH, and Secret Service (Plains Clothes Division).
While he was passionate about his law enforcement career, the most important thing to him was his faith in GOD and his family. He was very involved with the First Baptist Church of St. Charles while a member there.
John also enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was last minute dinners, vacations or holidays, he loved them all. He was also involved with the Boy Scout Troop 1776. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Service Information is as follows:
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 9AM until time of Funeral Service at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
