John Francis Slattery Jr.'s Obituary
John Francis Slattery, 78, of La Plata, passed away at his residence on January 9, 2024. He was born on December 10, 1945, in La Plata to the late Rita (Swan) and John F. Slattery, Sr.
John was a devoted husband of 50 years to the late Linda Rae Slattery. He was a loving father to his two daughters Christine Robertson (David) and Julia Harris (Alfonso) and a doting Pop Pop to his three granddaughters Corissa Figueredo (Josh), Kelsey Troutman (Ronnie), and Hollie Green (Nick) and seven great grandchildren Hunter, Joshua, Kendall Rae, Ava, Delaney, Nolan, and Mya. His family was his life. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Gardiner (Joseph) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from St. Mary’s Ryken, John joined the Air Force. Upon completing his service to his country, he worked for a short time at the phone company before starting at Southern Maryland Electric where he was employed for 47 years. Once he retired, he loved spending time with his family and friends and tinkering with his 1931 Model A car.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on January 17, 2024, from 10am-12pm at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Avenue, LaPlata, MD 20646. The service will begin at 12pm with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
