Joseph Louis Briscoe Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph Louis Briscoe Sr. went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2025, at the age of 87. Joseph was born on July 2, 1937, to the late George Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Briscoe. He was raised in White Plains, Maryland and attended St. Joseph Church located in Pomfret, Maryland. He was educated in Charles County Public Schools. In his later years Joseph attended Sacred Heart Church, but more importantly, he loved the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on March 9,2020, at Ark of Safety Church in Hyattsville, Maryland. Joseph had a long work career, working in various trades including construction. The last 30 years of his career were spent working for the Maryland Department of Transportation, formally known as Maryland State Highway Administration, where he retired on September 17, 2002. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family. Throughout his life he loved to cook, play guitar and harmonica music, and to take family trips. Working with his hands was so gratifying to him, whether gardening or fixing anything with an engine. Outside of work, Joseph had a number of hobbies, talents and interests. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching westerns, soap operas and learning new things. With no formal training, he could repair almost anything that was broken. He could do more with less and was truly gifted. On July 5, 1958, Joseph married the love of his life, Ann Gertrude Coombs, and from that union, they were blessed with seven children: Jacqueline, Belinda, Philis, Joseph Jr., Gregory, Kevin and Jerod. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents George Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Briscoe; his wife Ann Gertrude Briscoe; father and mother-in-law, George Ollie and Mary Coombs; brother George Briscoe; grandson, Gregory Briscoe, Jr.; son-in-law, Mark Hart; sister, Ruth Price; brothers-in-law, James Butler, George Proctor, Harry Todd, Lloyd Price, Matthew Ford, Howard Makle; sisters-in-law, Catherine Makle, Octavia Briscoe, Ella Anderson; nephews, Robert Briscoe, Vincent Proctor, Roscoe Makle, Rodney Ford, Clifton Butler, Stanley Price, Sr., Vincent Chase, and Michael Price; nieces, Koretta Briscoe and Nikko Price. Joseph leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Jacqueline Jackson (Joseph), Belinda Chase (Francis), Philis Hart, Joseph Briscoe, Jr., (Tammy), Gregory Briscoe, Sr., (Charlene), Kevin Briscoe, Sr., (Crystal) and Jerod Briscoe; 13 grandchildren: Demetria Tolson, Joseph Jackson, Jr., Francis Chase, Jr., La Toya Chase, LaTasha Briscoe, LaShell Goldring, LaTisha Hart, LaTonya Hart, Joshua Briscoe, Kevin Briscoe, Jr. Jordan Briscoe, Derek Briscoe, Darien Briscoe; 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother James Briscoe, sisters Theresa Butler, Agnes Proctor and Mary Ford; sister-in-law Ernestine Coombs; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Joseph’s impact will be forever felt by his family, who loved him. We are so grateful and truly blessed to have had him in our lives and we will forever cherish every precious memory. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone whose lives he touched.
