JOSEPH ALLAN HILL's Obituary
On July 17, 2026, Joseph Allan Hill was gently welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior at the age of 85. A lifelong native of St. Mary's County, he lived a life that proved you do not need to be loud to make a profound impact.
Joe was born on December 24, 1940, in the small town of Bushwood, Maryland to the late James Allan Hill and Julia Elizabeth Hill Grode. He embodied the definition of a Godly, caring and gentle man. He approached life with honor, humility and a calming presence. While he was often a man of few words, his sense of humor, kind eyes and warm smile spoke volumes to those blessed to have known him.
Joe was the devoted husband to the late Eva Mabel Hill (nee Higgs). They were joined together as one on September 10, 1989. Their later in life marriage was a true testament to the power of steadfast love. He was welcomed with open arms by Mabel's daughters Shirley (Wilkerson), Jean (Bartelmes) and Janet (Nagel). Joe quickly became a dear integral part of a big family. He was always a strong presence who could be counted on, giving quiet guidance and unwavering love and support.
For many years Joe's primary career was driving a tanker truck hauling fuel for Besche Oil. He was also employed by Leonardtown Wharf and Hill's Halfway House where he met so many people. It is said that if you knew Joe you quickly became his friend. In his early career Joe was a gemologist creating beautiful pieces of jewelry for G & H Jewelers of Leonardtown.
One of Joe's favorite things to do was sharing Sunday dinners with the family, listening to the Gaither Vocal Band. He kept an immaculate yard filled with beautiful flowers and plants for his lovely bride. Joe had a particular soft spot in his heart for his sweet little dog Noel, who was his princess.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Eva Mabel Hill (nee Higgs); his parents, James Hill and Julia Elizabeth (Buster) Hill (nee Grode); his sister Mary Ann Hayden (nee Hill), brother-in-law James Rholand Hayden; and his step-daughter Shirley A. Wilkerson (nee Higgs).
While we are deeply saddened, we find comfort by our cherished memories of Joe and the legacy that his gentle kindness leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and held dear in our hearts, and the hearts of all that were privileged to know him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Joe's life on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Brinsfield Funeral home in Charlotte Hall, MD. Visitation will take place 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Joe Wible. He will be laid to rest at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf following the service.
