Joseph Carroll McWilliams' Obituary
Joseph “Joe’ Carroll McWilliams, 66, of Indian Head, died April 10, 2025. He was born to John H. McWilliams, Sr. and Willa McWilliams on January 30, 1959.
He is survived by Siblings John H. McWilliams Jr., Jane M. Badger, and James W. McWilliams, nieces Catherine Mills, Emily Haley, Megan Pierce, Erin Klaas, and Shannon Oliver, nephew John C. McWilliams, and a wide range of cousins and close friends, all of whom were touched in some way by the sheer force of his jovial personality.
Joe was ever a fixture on the Charles County/Indian Head scene and was proud of his roots. He spent most of his working career as a Social Worker for the State of Maryland and he took great pride in giving aid and comfort to men and women needing help throughout our region.
Joe’s greatest love was sports, which he both played and viewed avidly. He was a stellar basketball player and played well into old age with a reputation of no quarter taken. Joe, as a graduate there, particularly enjoyed University of Maryland basketball, football, and lacrosse and often enjoyed season tickets and championship games for those teams over many years. He was also a fan of the Redskins football team and could be seen rooting for them most Sundays in season. Joe also played on local bowling teams and pool leagues where he was regarded as the face of both due to his zeal for playing and zesty support.
But most of all, Joe enjoyed the company of friends and family, which often were indistinguishable to him . If you were his friend, you were family. His larger-than-life personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home; and where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 11 AM. Internment Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Maryland.
