Karen Sue Burns Bennett's Obituary
Karen Sue Burns Bennett, 67, passed away quietly at home in La Plata, MD, on Friday, July 21, 2017 after a two-year battle with Alzheimer's.
Karen was born in the District of Columbia Sept. 21, 1949 and was raised in Baden, MD, along with her six siblings: Patricia, Harry, Sharon, Kathy, Wesley, and Deborah. She married the love of her life, Gerald Bennett, Aug. 15, 1970. Together they raised their three children: Gerald Jr., Timothy and Cynthia in Waldorf, MD. Karen enjoyed their grandchildren: Allison, Julia, Destini, Emily, Robert, Leah, Elizabeth and Sarah; as well as her beloved great granddaughter, Avery.
Karen ran a Christian based daycare out of their home for most of her adult life. Karen and Jerry were very active in their church community. Her life focus was the raising and care of children, especially her own.
Karen is survived by her husband, all of her siblings, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Shirley Burns of Baden, MD.
Services for Karen will be held at The First Baptist Church of St. Charles located at 136 Stoddert Avenue in Waldorf, MD. Viewings will be Sunday, July 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 31, also at the First Baptist Church. The interment will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens on Mattawoman-Beantown Road immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation in Karen's name be made to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
