Kathryn Loretta Brukardt's Obituary
Kathryn Loretta (Smith) Brukardt passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025. She was the daughter of James Joseph Smith Sr and Doris Virginia (Farrell) Smith of Morgantown, MD.
On August 15, 1956, Kathy was born on a significant day: the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. She has always felt a sense of uniqueness about this special occasion.
Kathy found the love of her life in Harold Stephen (Steve) Brukardt. They were married on May 8, 1976, and together they welcomed a son, Christopher Stephen Brukardt.
Kathy enjoyed doing things to make people happy. She would do anything for you! She had a knack for remembering birthdays and Christmas celebrations. She loved watching the Hallmark Channel, going camping, and listening to oldies and country music, particularly the songs of Conway Twitty. Above all, her greatest love was for her family.
Kathy played a significant role in organizing the LPHS class reunion last year and cherished the opportunity to connect with her classmates. With an impressive 42-year career at Bank of America, she embraced every holiday with festive attire. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and aunt, with a heart of Gold. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Brukardt of Hollywood, MD; her sister, Vivian Davis (Ray) of LaPlata, MD; and her sisters-in-law, Sherrie Gayon (Barney) of Welcome, MD, Susie Welch (Marty) of St. Augustine, FL, Tami Faunce (J.R.) of St. Augustine, FL, and Denise Guy (Ricky) of Mechanicsville, MD. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Joseph Smith, Sr., and Doris Smith; her husband, Steve Brukardt; her brother, James Joseph Smith Jr.; and her ex-sister-in-law, Jean Green.
The family will receive friends for the visitation on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with the service beginning at noon officiated by Deacon William Kyte at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD. Interment will follow after the service at 1:30pm at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Heart Association, Hollywood Rescue Squad, or Food Bank of St. Mary’s County.
