Lola Kay Smythers' Obituary
Lola Kay Smythers, 73, of La Plata, Maryland, died on November 3, 2018 at her home with her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on August 7, 1945 in Austinville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lola Belle Lowe Poole and Samuel M. Poole. Kay worked as an Administrative Assistant with Southern Maryland Communications for 25 years, with Mike’s Auto Body and finally with the Charles County Government until retirement. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, and loved gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, trying out new recipes at family gatherings but most of all she cherished time with her beloved grandchildren. Kay was a loving and generous heart to everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Poole.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bobby Smythers; her daughter Tammy McClure and her husband Mike; grandchildren Cole and Taryn; numerous cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 10AM until time for service to begin at 12 Noon at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
