Margy Gooslin's Obituary
Margy Gooslin, 88, of Hughesville, MD, peacefully passed away on September 3, 2024. She was born on November 9, 1935, in Majestic, Kentucky to Theodore and Octavia Fugate.
For over 30 years, Margy worked as a meat cutter, a cashier, and a weekly order clerk processing the store inventory for the grocery store Super Fresh, formerly A & P. She enjoyed her job. Her friendly demeanor and genuine interest in people's lives made her a beloved figure in the community. Prior to A & P, she also worked for The Hechinger Company and Walgreens Drug Store.
In 1949, she met her one and only husband, William A. Gooslin at Phelps High School in Phelps, Kentucky. The two fell in love and were married on August 20, 1951, in Williamson, West Virginia. They were married for 54 years before his passing in 2006. They were blessed with two children, Theresa Diane and William Ronald. In 1985 she became a grandmother to Edward Stewart, and in 2009 she became a great-grandmother for the first time to Hayden Leanne and in 2017 to Edward Stewart Jr.
Margy was an excellent cook known for her fried and bar-b-que chicken, potato salad, her sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice. She also made the best glazed whole hams at Christmas. She loved to make peanut butter cookies and fudge at Christmas and made her bunny cakes at Easter for three generations. Margy always had Holiday and Sunday dinners for her family. Apart from cooking, she found joy in crocheting, traveling, and looking after her family. Margy and her sisters met in Orient, Ohio almost every year and they attended their class reunions in Kentucky, creating cherished memories together.
Whenever you hear the song, “You Are My Sunshine” remember Margy, she loved to sing that song to her grandson and great-grandchildren. They were her sunshine.
Margy was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband William, and sisters, Mabel Guthrie, Barbara Parker, and Linda Carole Dotson. She is survived by her children, Theresa Houser (Thomas) of Bryantown, MD, William R (Maria) of Indian Head, MD, sister Emogene Eldridge of Orient, OH, grandson
Edward Houser, and great-grandchildren Hayden Houser and Edward Houser, Jr., of Hughesville, MD.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the family will receive friends for the visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with the service beginning at noon at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will follow after the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
