Mary Genevieve Thorne's Obituary
Mary Genevieve (Robey) Thorne, 86, of Waldorf, Md., died on June 9, 2022, at Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center. Mary was born on October 25, 1935, in Waldorf, MD, to the late Gladys Marguerite and Joseph Marvin Robey.
Mary was an active member of her community all of her life. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Indian Head. She was a member of the altar guild at Christ Episcopal Church in Accokeek and made all of the potato salad for their annual Ham and Oyster Dinner for 20 years. She retired as the head teller at the Maryland Bank and Trust in Waldorf, Md. She was the classroom mom for many years while her children were in elementary school and a caregiver for both her parents and other aging friends in their final years. She loved flowers and enjoyed taking care of her house plants. She took great pride in her home. Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Donald Thorne; grandson, Gene Edward Thorne; great-granddaughter, Leah Jackson; brothers Joseph Robey, Jr., and Leon Robey, and sister, Adelaide Copeland.
Mary is survived by her sons, Donald E. Thorne (Candace), and Michael K. Thorne, daughter, Julie M. Bivens (Kenneth); 10 grandchildren: Kimberly Thorne, Brandy Blackburn (Richard), Laura Jackson (James), Mary Henley (Seth), Jennifer Bivens, Rachel Pietropaoli (Tom), Charity Felts (Elena), Tim Sweitzer (Emily), Zachary Thorne, and Corey Thorne: eight great-grandchildren: Richard Blackburn, Brooke Blackburn, Chad Jackson, Emma Jackson, Destiny Sweitzer, Austin Kershaw, Tristan Sweitzer, and Mila Kazman; and one great-great grandchild, Emela Marcott.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m., at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7365 Indian Head Highway, Bryans Road, MD 20616. A private interment will be held at a later date.
