Marye DaOnne Lucas' Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of DaOnne Lucas announce her passing. Her passing took place on July 23, 2023, at the age of 82, at her home in La Plata, Maryland.
DaOnne was born on July 1, 1941 in La Plata, Maryland to the late Opal Mae Henderson and Walter Anthony Willett. She was blessed with the births of her three children; Mark, Kelli and Curt whom she adored. She later went on to marry the love of her life, Joseph Lucas on April 18, 1997. They resided for many years at their beloved waterfront home in Nanjemoy, Maryland before moving to their final home in La Plata, Maryland.
DaOnne graduated from La Plata High School in 1959. She was always proud that when she graduated, she received the superlatives of Best Dressed and Most Feminine. She was always extremely smart and went on to become a successful business woman. She worked in the insurance industry for many years, including successfully owning and operating her own agency (Allied Underwriters Insurance Agency) in Mechanicsville, MD for more than 20 years.
DaOnne was fun-loving and she enjoyed many things, including the love to travel. She also thoroughly enjoyed her annual (sometimes more) shopping trips to Williamsburg, VA and Rehoboth Beach, DE with her girls (daughter and granddaughters). She truly loved to live life, and wanted nothing more than to spend her days around family and friends laughing and just having fun. She especially loved the time spent at her beloved condo in Ocean City, Maryland, and some of her most precious pastimes included the days spent and memories made with her beloved late sister, Susan “Susie” Legagneaux.
DaOnne was multi-talented. She had a natural gift at making anything look beautiful with her special eye for decorating, and as an excellent cook and divine baker she loved hosting and planning family gatherings. From crab feasts to her annual Christmas brunch and more, her talents were thoroughly enjoyed by all. She loved sports and was a lifelong Washington Redskins and avid Washington Nationals fan. She even attended Super Bowl XXXIV with her daughter Kelli, jesting her sons (Mark and Curt), “maybe next time boys”. She enjoyed reading about history and took pride in her studying and knowledge of politics.
DaOnne is survived by her husband Joseph Lucas; her sons Mark (Bonnie) and Curt (Leslie); her daughter Kelli; and grandchildren Matthew, Tara, Mitchell, Tyler, Krysta, Nicole, Grant and Opal and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father; Brothers Reggie, Claude, Rayfield, Milton, Johnny, David, Pat, and Wayne; Sister Susie; and many other beloved family members.
