Mildred Falin Davis' Obituary
Mildred “Millie” Falin Davis, age 92 of La Plata, Maryland, died November 6, 2020 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland.
She was the daughter of Gideon Falin and Ethel Taylor Falin.
It was love at first sight for her and Jack, the love of her life, who predeceased her after 67 years of marriage. Millie and Jack raised their children in a godly home, full of love and laughter. Camping was a favorite family activity and they traveled all over the East Coast. Volunteering was important to her and she led by example. She was involved in the Red Cross and several other organizations.
The Davis family moved to La Plata in 1960 when Jack, a Maryland State Trooper, was transferred to Barrack H in Waldorf. She quickly became involved in church and community causes such as the Red Cross and nursing home visitation and worship services.
For several years, Millie was the secretary for the Charles County Chamber of Commerce. She then was a secretary in the law office of Thomas Carrico for 18 years. With the birth of grandchildren, she retired to the position of Grandma. She frequently said the time spent with the grandkids when they were young were the happiest times of her life.
When the Richard Clark Senior Center opened in 1989, the Davises were quick to become involved. Both Millie and Jack were active members of the Show Troupe, dancing and acting and performing frequently. They remained in the Show Troupe into their 80’s.
She and Jack were pillars of their church, The Worship Center, since its founding where she was lovingly called Mama Millie. Going to church was always the highlight of her week. She rarely missed a service, stopping only when failing health made attendance impossible.
Throughout her life, Millie worked to be a good influence and make a difference in the lives of everyone who crossed her path. She wanted to pray for them and to see them succeed in life, and usually was awake much of the night in prayer for anyone and anything that came to mind. She genuinely cared about people she encountered, whether they were aides at the facilities where she was, or nurses, doctors, or the cafeteria worker and custodian. She loved them all. She was strong, funny, determined, and was one unforgettable little lady who, even at the end, wanted her lipstick on and curls in her hair.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Davis; her son, Steven Davis and his wife Linda; beloved grandchildren, Katie Haile (John), Amy Coulby (Aaron), Melissa Stuebing (David), and Casey Davis; and her great-grandchildren who adore her, Bryce, Brenden, and Brentley Haile, Mackenzie, Leighlin, Caleb, Samuel, and Ezekiel Coulby, and Josiah and Fiona Stuebing.
