Myrtle Belle Reid's Obituary
Myrtle Belle Reid, nee Kennedy affectionately known to all of us as Nancy, went to be with our Lord on Monday July 1. Nancy was born in Mandeville, Jamaica to Victor John Kennedy and Ruth Elfreida Kennedy ne, Johnson. For as long as she could remember, Nancy wanted to be a nurse. It was her life’s dream she fulfilled and a passion she lived in all her activities. She did her nurses training in Surrey, England and her midwifery training in Guildford. After completing her training she returned to Jamaica, West Indies and was one of the first trained Operating Room Nurses practicing in her hometown. She married Rudolph Llewelyn Reid on April 1, 1967. The pair immigrated to this country in 1968, and settled at first in Washington, DC where Nancy worked at Morris Cafritz Memorial Hospital, later known as Greater Southeast Community Hospital. She was a registered nurse for 47 years and worked in the labor and delivery ward. She touched countless lives of new parents, young frightened mothers, school teachers and others. She was a blessed friend, neighbor, sister, wife and a beloved mother. She loved gardening and was the most gracious host to anyone lucky enough to be invited to her home.
Nancy is survived immediately by her husband of 57 years, Rudolph Reid, her three children, Dr. Laura May Reid, Daughter, Natalie A. Gravette, Daughter (Demetrius), and Christopher John Llewelyn Reid, Son. She is also survived by her siblings, Hortense Buckley, Sister, Lloyd G. Kennedy (Dolly), Brother, and Neville Kennedy (Venetta) as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. We take comfort knowing she is resting in the arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
