Nancy Jeanne "Gramie" Howie's Obituary
Nancy Jeanne “Grami” Howie, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, educator, and friend passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 at the age of 80. Born on October 14, 1944 in Hagerstown, Maryland, Nancy touched countless lives with her warmth, humor and unwavering devotion to her family.
Nancy was a dedicated educator, spending her career as a teacher at T.C. Martin Elementary School in Bryantown, Maryland, and other schools across Charles County. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she inspired generations of students and colleagues alike with her kindness and enthusiasm for learning.g
She was predeceased by the unforgettable, John “Papa John” Howie who was the love of her life. Together they created a home full of love and laughter - inviting all to gather around their table for a lively game night or to settle on the couch to cheer on the Redskins. Nancy was a truly selfless person who would do anything in her power to help those in need. She was known for her witty commentary, her signature heart-stamped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a comforting presence that made anyone feel at home
Nancy is survived by her sister: Pam Naugle, children: Brian Howie, Pam Howie, Traci Denhardt, Tami Howie, and Walter Leach, as well as her eleven grandchildren: Chris Howie, Sarah Howie, Kate Howie Ramirez, Alex Ramirez, Maggie Howie, Robby Denhardt, Lauren Ravekes, Ryan Denhardt, Richie Osikowicz, Catherine Osikowicz, and John Robert and many beloved nieces, nephews and family members. Each one carries forward her legacy of love, laughter and loyalty.
Nancy’s life was a testament to the beauty of kindness, the strength of family bonds and the joy of simple pleasures. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her gentle spirit, contagious laugh and the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in LaPlata, Maryland on Sunday, November 17th. The viewing will be from 12 to 1:00pm with funeral service immediately following.
