Neal David Wilsey's Obituary
Dr. Neal David Wilsey, age 87, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.
Born on July 27, 1937, in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Neal was the devoted son of the late Russell and Esther Wilsey. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and earning an honorable discharge as a disabled veteran. Following his military service, Neal pursued a Doctorate Degree at Colorado State University, leading to a distinguished career as a physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory and a long tenure as an educator at the College of Southern Maryland.
A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in La Plata, Neal served as an active Deacon and a dedicated Sunday School teacher, sharing his faith and wisdom with his church community.
Neal was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Wilsey, as well as his brother, Russell Wilsey, and his brother-in-law Bruce MacLain, along with sisters-in-law Betty, Dottie, brothers-in-laws Jimmy (Becky), Jesse, and Jerry Koon.
He is survived by his current wife, Cookie Wilsey; his children Kevin (Maria), David (Laura), Craig (Lindsay), Keith (Tracy), Dee Dee (David), and Vycki (Bernie); his siblings, brother Chris (Linda Kay) and sister Linda (Steve); sister-in-law Donna Wilsey; and brothers-in-law Claud Koon and Richard (Pam) Koon. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Rachel (Allen), Danny, Ryan (Michael), Brian (Cicilia), Matthew, Alexandra, Noah (Claudia), Sidney, Dean, and Alan, as well as great-grandchildren Gabriel, Jesse, Oliver, Ellis, Ezekiel, Daleyza, and Scarlett.
Neal's devotion to his family, faith, and love for music were central to his life. His commitment to learning, leadership, and teaching left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of the
Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Pallbearers will include Danny, Brian, Matthew, Noah, Dean, Alan, and Michael.
Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
