Philip Maurice Hamrick's Obituary
Philip Maurice Hamrick (Phil), 64, of Bryans Road, MD, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016. Phil was born on September 15, 1952 in Elkins, West Virginia, to Porter M. and Betty J. Hamrick.
He is survived by his parents Porter and Betty Hamrick of Indian Head, MD. He is also survived by his daughter Jodi Lynn Hamrick and husband Joey Sandy; sister Judith Buschman and brother-in-law Bob; brother David Hamrick and sister-in-law Margaret; sister Sara Prebble and brother-in-law Joseph; his grandchildren Jordan Sandy and Jase Sandy; and many nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly.
Phil was a Life Member of the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department (BRVFD) where he held past offices as Chief and President. At BRVFD he also was a fundraising chairman running events like the Turkey Shoot, Christmas tree sales, Texas Hold’em and Bingo. He loved his firehouse family and was extremely proud of his service to his community.
Phil also retired as an Information Management Specialist from the Federal Government September 30, 2008 after 34 years. During his retirement years, he became an avid walker on the Village Green in Indian Head and wrote a book about his experience in losing 100 pounds. Phil was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was very dedicated to his family and loved to help and serve others.
A viewing will be held at the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 6 PM – 8 PM with Fireman’s Prayers at 7 PM. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Indian Head Baptist Church at 10 AM with the Fire Department Procession immediately following to Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
