Philip Arthur Terry's Obituary
Philip “Phil” Arthur Terry, 42, of Nanjemoy, MD passed away on February 6, 2023 at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
Phil was born on June 2, 1980 in Washington, DC to Norman Leo Terry and the late Jo Ann (Hearn) Terry. Phil was born premature and wasn’t expected to live through the night, however, with a lot of love and prayers, he beat the odds.
As a child, he and his family moved from the city life in Clinton, MD to the country life in Nanjemoy, MD. Phil loved all animals and being outdoors. There wasn’t a dog or cat that didn’t enjoy belly rubs from Phil. He even owned multiple snakes. As an adult, after work was done, whether on the farm or off, Phil enjoyed the leisure activities of hunting and fishing, as well as an occasional sophisticated drink of bourbon or an old fashion. He loved cookouts and gatherings with family and friends, especially the Fourth of July, where he would always put on an extravagant fireworks display and his drink of choice was an ice cold margarita. He took great pride in his 1991 calypso green Ford Mustang, and enjoyed the annual end of summer car show in Ocean City, MD.
Phil was a Senior Project Manager at Donley Construction, LLC of Aberdeen, MD where he worked for more than 10 years. He was an accomplished 8-ball and 9-ball pool player, making it to the World Pool Championships in Las Vegas, NV. He was on the APA and Indian Head Pool Leagues.
On April 24, 2022, Phil married the love of his life, Marilyn Regina (Herbert) Terry, on that same farmland that he moved to all those years ago; a love that began when he started school at Mt. Hope/ Nanjemoy Elementary School in the middle of 3rd grade. Phil looked forward to taking his family to Oak Island, NC for vacations whenever possible. He loved his family and friends. He lived to make others happy and was always their protector.
Phil is proceeded in death by his mother Jo Ann Terry and his stepbrother, John Albert O’Sullivan, Sr.
Phil is survived by his wife, Marilyn, son, Bryan (Narcisa) Young, daughter, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Young (fiancé Mikey Weeks), stepdaughter, Kaytlynn Sexton, grandson, Ezra Hendrix, granddaughter, Evelyn Stevenson, father, Norman (stepmom Jewel) Terry, sister, Samantha (Tim) Newbill, sister, Tricia Terry (Freddy Wright), brother, Norman Terry, II, nieces and nephews, Ricky Rhodes, Lizzy Wright, Sully O’Sullivan Jr., Eddy Wright, Aaron Newbill, Christina Terry, Leo Terry III and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646, where a service will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 10:30 AM.
