Rebecca Alene Waters' Obituary
Rebecca Alene (Smythers) Waters died October 9, 2022, in Spokane, Washington, from complications of COVID-19. She was born on December 13, 1989, in LaPlata, Maryland, a daughter of Robert Allen and Debra Alene (Caywood) Smythers.
She was Christened on April 14, 1990, at Christ Episcopal Church in Chapitco, Maryland, where many generations of Caywood descendants have been Christened.
In 2007, she graduated from Leonardtown High School in Leonardtown, Maryland, before moving to Ionia, Missouri, in 2010. She attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, where she majored in history. Rebecca was a volunteer fireman for the Lincoln Fire Department while living in Ionia prior to moving to Warrensburg. She became a Certified Pharmacy Technician and worked for Walmart in Sedalia.
On July 16, 2018, she married the love of her life, Christopher Waters in Corbin, Kentucky, who survives of the home, along with her son, Noah Waters.
After moving to Spokane, Washington, Rebecca worked for the Veterans Administration as a pharmacy technician, taking care of the veterans in the area. She had great respect for veterans coming from a family of veterans; and she wanted to give back to this group who served our country. Rebecca loved their quick wit and was ready to give her quick wit right back to them. She was also ready to help those in need and would refer them to areas of the veterans hospital, so they were not forgotten. She especially liked the World War II veterans, because she knew there weren't many of left and they needed special attention.
Rebecca was a dedicated crocheter and had a massive collection of yarn, enough that she could have opened her own store. She made beautiful blankets, hats, shawls, purses, and that is just the beginning. She sold many of her projects and gave many as gifts while in Washington and crocheting with her friend, Bri. After her death, many of her projects went to family and friends and some were donated to veterans to remember her beautiful work. She always had a project on her mind and had to run to the store to find that special yarn to crochet with. Many yarn stores in Spokane will miss her weekly yarn purchases.
She is also survived by her mother Debra Gage and stepfather Thomas Gage, sister Stephanie Ramsey and Andrew, nieces Abigail and Mary Brown, two very special people in her life, Beverly Carroll and Betoria Brown, her father-in-law, Mark Waters, grandmother Edna Caywood, uncles John Caywood, Jr. And Kathleen, Richard Smythers and Joan, Frederick Gage and Patty, aunt Caroline Bowen and James, and many cousins, great uncles and great aunts.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Smythers, grandfather John Caywood, Sr., grandparents Vivian and Ethel Smythers, uncle Kenneth Smythers, and mother-in-law Teresa Yerger.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Ionia, Missouri, with Rev. Harvey Beach officiating. Rebecca will be laid to rest beside her father at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, Missouri.
