Richard Harrison Stancliff Jr.'s Obituary
Richard “Pappy” Harrison Stancliff Jr., 80, of Port Tobacco, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in La Plata.
Born on December 13, 1944 in Franklin, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Richard Harrison Stancliff Sr. and Margaret Louise Strawbridge. He was the oldest of two brothers and grew up in Lanham, Maryland. Richard was a graduate of DuVal High School then later went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree from Bowie State University. As a teenager, Richard worked in his father's hardware store. He also worked a variety of jobs including with C & P Telephone, Giant Foods, and as an Educator with the Prince George’s County School System. Richard also received his Broker’s License in Real Estate and taught Real Estate classes at the College of Southern Maryland. He loved spending time with his family, and he will be greatly missed. He was an avid movie goer and also enjoyed playing tennis, radio-controlled airplane flying, fishing, crabbing, boating, caving, gardening, model trains, woodworking, watching Westerns, and even learned to drive an 18-wheeled tractor trailer. Richard’s teaching and driving skills were passed on as he taught the grandchildren how to drive! Anything that piqued Richard’s interests was worth trying out at least once.
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith; his brother Lawrence David Stancliff (Rebecca); his son Richard Harrison Stancliff III (Jennifer); his daughter Angela Marie Stancliff (Terry); his grandchildren Adrienne Dronenburg (Jacob), Eric Stancliff (Madi), Kaitlyn Grubb (Carter), Andrew Stancliff, Harrison Stancliff, and Samantha Stancliff; his great grandchildren Jacob Dronenburg Jr., and Eli Stancliff.
