Robert Henry Spotz's Obituary
Robert Henry Spotz of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away peacefully after a short illness on 5 June 2024 at the age of 85.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife Millicent Ann Spotz, his parents, Mary Rampack Spotz and Michael John Spotz Jr., and his brother, Michael John Spotz III. He is survived by his children Brenda Spotz Herman, Dee Dee Spotz Pettersen (Ralph), his step children Christopher Thompson (Becky), Karen Thompson, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Robert was born in and grew up in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State with a chemical engineering degree and was hired by the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, Maryland in 1961, where he remained for his entire career. He was a key player in establishing the CAD/PAD manufacturing capabilities at Indian Head. His motto was cost, quality, schedule and safety - all are equally important. Robert retired as a department head at the age of 53.
Robert loved his family, and was proud of his Hungarian heritage. He loved living on the water and all that came with that – fishing, boating, crabbing, the wildlife and the beautiful views! He loved his time on his boats and especially loved his fishing trips and outings with his friends and family. He enjoyed living life to the fullest and loved interacting with people. He enjoyed food and cooking and was very proud of his award winning pies! He enjoyed science and appreciated art. Robert always had an entrepreneurial spirit which included many ventures from arcades to bars to apartments. He is known for his funny stories mostly about himself. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. A viewing (11-1) and a service (1-2) will be held on June 18th at the Raymond Funeral Services Chapel in La Plata, MD. Burial will follow at 2:30 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
