Rose M. Smith's Obituary
Rose Marie Smith was born on November 25, 1936 in Washington, DC to the late William G. Montague and Grace E. Hall-Montague. Rose had eleven siblings. She departed this life on Thursday August 23, 2018 peacefully in her sleep at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC.
Rose was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system and was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Washington, DC. After graduation from high school, she attended Martha Washington in Washington, DC to pursue a career in nursing.
Rose married Leonard C. Smith and from this union one child was born, Lolita M. Smith. After four years of marriage they legally separated.
Rose started her career as a Pharmacist Technician at AARP in Washington, DC. She retired from AARP after 20 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, she decided to continue her career and accepted a position in the Federal Government as a Procurement Specialist / Pharmacy Technician at Veterans Hospital in Washington, DC.
Rose accepted Christ as her Lord at a early age and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Washington, DC. She enjoyed many activities including; physical fitness, traveling to the beach, listening to Gospel music, attending jazz concerts, plays and going to the theater with family and friends.
In addition to her parents and former husband Leonard C. Smith, she is preceded in death by her sister Lois Montague and Marian Montague, grand daughter Diona Anthony and longtime companion Thomas Jenkins.
Rose is survived by her daughter Lolita Smith Anthony-Walker and John Walker (son in-law), Perez and Nehemiah Walker (grand children), nine siblings; William Montague, evelyn Montague, Jeremiah Montague, Vernon Montague, Arlene Montague-Carter, Anita Montague, Michael Montague, John Leo Montague, and Samuel Montague to include many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. She had a special relationship with Maryanne Jenkins and Bertha Bumper.
